Constructing Liberties
photographs
I took photographs of my apartment and uploaded them in photoshop.
Construction has continually developed since I moved into my apartment. The fire place is the center of my place, and music flows through the apartment.

great work, youve given such a feel of time, movement and life.
This is one of my favorites. I love how you have captured the feeling of the music. I actually get the sense of music playing when I see this.
Great image! I see the chaos of the construction, but also a sense of calm from the soft light.

Sami,
You are definitely crafty! I love this piece not only because it invites viewers to see your home, but it is really playful and makes your eyes really scan through every part of the image.
p.s when are we getting lunch? hehe
Through your image and descriptions you can easily see that this is the kind of home that would be comfortable and relaxing and fun. It has a very warm feeling, I love it!
I love the colours ,texture, personal content and rhythm of this work.Everybody takes their own meaning from a piece and to me,this is all about transcience and embracing change. It is very positive, warm and attractive.
It's quite lovely. There is a sense of cadence to the images, I can hear music playing.
Thank you for your comments on my angry bit of work. My blog has been flagged as spam for some reason, and is going to be inactive for 20 days while it is under review. The new blog is http://betweenscyllaandcharybidis.blogspot.com/
Sam, What I enjoyed the most about your piece is that it reminds me of some photographs that I believe David Hockney did that were made from shooting many small photos in order to make up a much larger and complete composition. I get the feeling that I am looking at a rather small place from many different vantage points. Your work also reminds of a Cubist style painting where the viewer sees many sides of an object or setting all wrapped up into one composition - many different views converging into one pieces.
Samantha,
This image is very surreal to me and even looks like two or three images exposed on top of each other in a dark room. I really like the eschewed, awkward feeling it conveys. I am attracted to images that show transformation and morphing...the in-between moments...and you've really accomplished this feeling with your piece.
This is a great piece. I'm impressed that you combined your sense of being inside with what the place looks outside. You pulled it off in an aesthetically pleasing piece. I have an impression of what it feels like to live where you live.
Now this feels like Philly! Close, bricked in, a bit cluttered, and either being torn apart or slowly rebuilt. The diagonals on the outside edges adds to the claustrophobia and tightness experienced by rowhouse living. The transparencies of the stereo system being rhythmically repeated across the bottom of the image definitely captures the deep rhythms that must come issuing forth from it. The fireplace is where the warmth of the home is radiated outwards from... it is well that is centrally located. It is also a metaphor for the heart.
Thank you for your comment on my blog. Actually, the story WAS the thing. The collage was just an artifact, really.

I love the image. I can feel the music great job.
Hi Samantha,
Thanks for your comment on "Sanctuary". I have to admit, I labored over whether or not to include myself in the image. It's not a normal practice of mine to do so, but I thought it worked in this case. Yes, daydreaming is my greatest strength and my greatest weakness.
I love your pictured collage! It has some nice depth to it. You convey the feeling nicely and it looks like a place I would want to grow in. Growth does promote change and I have changed a lot much like my places of residence. I have always mixed things up every once in a while it feels good. I never lived in a place that had an original fireplace. Does it work?
Quite nice. While your transparent overlaps enact a type of movement (not quite frenzied, but obvious), the fireplace seems to stabilize the scene. It gives the room a point of familiarity while the rest may be in transition. Movement and Stillness. There is a Japanese painting that embodies this idea quite literally... I can't think of the title right now. It's most likely dated somewhere between the 11th and 13th centuries. The painting is vertical and at the center is a Monk meditating while he is surrounded by dense and frenzied trees. I'll try to find the title.

I hear the music of Vivaldi filling your living room - What do you hear?

Thanks for your comment Sami. I have to say your positive attitude towards my work truly motives and encourages me to create more. Much love.
Thank you for your comment on my WYWH. Yeah, I overdid it a bit with the garish colors, but there was a strong current of hopelessness that I felt when I moved here. It felt like half the city had just given up, and that's a bad place to be in. Lke I've said, either I don't feel it anymore or I've gotten used to it, and I hope it's the former.
